Heckle and Intimidator get off to fast starts at stud!

Texas stallion Heckle, who originally stood in Florida before moving to the Lone Star State, was represented by his first winner on June 19 when the 2-year-old filly Syndi’s Tease broke her maiden at Calder Race Course. A 2001 son of Hennessy, Heckle stands at Keith and Marilyn Asmussen’s Asmussen Horse Center in Laredo for a $1,500 fee. He won three of 10 starts during his career, including the Tremont Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park. He broke his maiden by 12 ½ lengths at Keeneland Race Course and equaled that track’s 4 ½-furlong record time. He is out of the Spectacular Bid mare Bid Me Adieu, who has also produced Grade 1 winner Spectacular Tide. Heckle’s first crop comprises 14 juveniles.

Intimidator, an 8-year-old Gone West stallion standing at Asmussen Horse Center in Laredo, Texas, scored his first winner when Ms Golden West won a maiden special weight contest on April 25 at Lone Star Park. Trained by the Asmussens’ son Steve, the 2-year-old filly runs for Heiligbrodt Racing Stable and Keith Asmussen. She is out of the unraced mare Miss Golden Jones, a daughter of Seneca Jones, who also stands at Asmussen Horse Center. Intimidator is a winning son of Grade 2 stakes winner Colonial Play.
